Saturday Night Live
regular
Taran Killam
has defended a sketch that many found to be offensive on the show's latest episode.
Killam and host
Dakota Johnson
spoofed a Toyota Camry commercial during Saturday night's episode, in which a father drops his daughter at the airport to join the U.S. Army.
The SNL version features Killam as the dad and Johnson as his daughter, only when they get to the airport she joins terrorist group ISIS and one of them mutters "death to America" as they drive off with his daughter.
The bit came under fire on social media for being tasteless and offensive, but Killam defended the sketch (and its writers) with a short post on Twitter.
"Proud of this. Freedom to mock is our greatest weapon," he wrote. "Thanks to the writers who asked not to be mentioned by name."
