15 Little Known Facts About 'Friends'

Friends has been one of the most iconic shows on television. The bromance between Chandler and Joey, the chemistry between Ross and Rachel, Phoebe's songs, or Monica's strong inclination towards cleanliness. The show has defined the meaning of friendship on a different level.

They fight with each other, care for each other, even get jealous from each other but stay there for each other. The sitcom aired its first episode almost two decades back and is still a popular show among the audience. The show has created some epic and unforgettable moments like Ross's Unagi, Phoebe's smelly cat or Missus Chanandler Bong, or Joey's 'how you doin', Janice's 'oh my god'.

But still, there are many facts unknown about the FRIENDS. Let's have a look at some of the facts.


1. Original Title

The show was originally set to be called 'Insomnia Café'. Later, the title was changed to 'Friends like Us' and then to 'Six of Us' before being called just 'Friends'.



2. Written For David Schwimmer

David Schwimmer was the first actor cast in the show. He was the first person in mind , as he was in the writer's mind while penning down Ross's character. All the other actors had to audition for getting the roles.



3. Monica's Apartment

Monica's apartment was completely functional during the show. The refrigerator in the apartment was always filled with snacks and drinks for the cast and crew.



4. Real-life Rachel and Monica

Jennifer Aniston (Rachel) and Courtney Cox (Monica) are the two closest members of the cast in real life. Jennifer is the godmother of Courtney's daughter Coco.



5. Phoebe's Pregnancy

Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe) was the first member of the cast to get married. When the news of her pregnancy came, the storyline of Phoebe becoming a surrogate mother for her brother was developed.



6. Chandler And Phoebe

The show originally was supposed to focus on Rachel, Joey, Ross and Monica. The characters of Chandler and Phoebe were supposed to supporting characters.



7. The Couch In Central Perk

The orange couch in the Central Perk café was found in the store-room of Warner Bros studios. It is the same couch for which Chandler and Ross were once bullied.



8. Courteney And Monica Were The Same

Like Monica, Courteney Cox was a clean freak. She couldn't bear the untidiness and was often spotted cleaning the dressing rooms of the other cast members.



9. BFFs

The female cast members ate lunch together for ten years. And Lisa Kudrow and Courtney Cox were Jennifer Aniston's bridesmaids when she married Brad Pitt, who also had a guest role on the show. In fact, the entire cast was very close.



10. Kisses

All the friends have kissed each other, except Monica and Phoebe. Rachel and Monica made out for a minute, but unfortunately it was offscreen.



11. Millionaire Pete Becker

The millionaire boyfriend of Monica, Pete Becker (Jon Favreau) was offered the role of Chandler Bing before Matthew Perry.



12. David the Scientist

The first serious love interest of Phoebe in the show was played by Hank Azaria, who was very desperate to be on the show and even auditioned twice for the role of Joey Tribbiani.



13. Janice

Chandler Bing's girlfriend Janice (Maggie Wheeler) was a recurring character on the show. Season 6 was the only season where she did not make an appearance.




14. Friends ritual

Before each episode, all the friends used to huddle and wish good luck to each other. This often made the guest actors feel out of the league.
